A fatty, deep-water flatfish with soft, white flesh, traded almost entirely frozen. Buyers ask for it as whole round or H&G for Asian markets and as fillets for smoking.

Caught by trawl and longline on the continental slope off northern Norway and in the Barents Sea, mainly from late spring into autumn; usually frozen at sea.
